Some negativity (and profanity)…

One of my motivations when starting this blog was to not be left behind with this tech supercycle.

It really does feel like the internet boom of the late 90’s. I want to educate myself and not also fall into some of the traps that eventuated from an investment perspective in that era.

You get constant reminders that the AI bubble is here. It is just a case of when it will pop. But we are getting closer.

The following graph caught my eye yesterday via CNBC. It shows market caps of Nvidia vs the three major European markets of the UK, France and Germany.

Yes, you are seeing that correctly. Nvidia as a company is worth substantially more than ALL combined stocks on each of the UK, French and German exchanges.

With Nvidia now the world’s largest company on market cap, you can see we are coming to the final quarter of a bubble burst. But it’s a case of timing and the hype can still ride much higher.

Marques Brownlee released a great video yesterday explaining that AI is a feature not a product. I agree with him. If you think of it this way it makes sense. But Nvidia’s market cap doesn’t indicate the stock market has shifted to this thinking.

He has a background working in the field and is frustrated with the “AI Washing” happening in the tech scene right now.

Some anomalies…

Staying with Australia. We noticed Sydney based Leonardo.ai is rolling out Australia's first major foundation model. Let’s hope bogan translation becomes a thing one day 🤞🏻
Security company CHEQ has more jobs than usual today with 5 in total.
4 of CHEQ’s jobs are in Marketing and that has boosted our numbers there with 18 marketing jobs in total.
AI data development platform Encord also on a hiring spree with 6 jobs.
Translation startup DeepL have a great product and also have 9 jobs.
Radiology software provider Rad AI also have more jobs than usual with 3 engineering positions.
Last but not least, ElevenLabs have a customer success role available in Dublin. Of the 187 jobs in the list it’s the only one there. It made me realise, despite all the big tech there and the infamous tax disputes that surround it - I rarely see AI jobs in Ireland 🇮🇪
