A New Cursor of Action

Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Arvid Lunnemark and Aman Sanger, all MIT students, developed Cursor, an AI coding assistant, through their company Anysphere.

In August, the company raised a $60M Series A at a $400M valuation, co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Joshua Kushner’s Thrive Capital. Quite impressive for such a young team.

Cursor is a fork of VS Code, an integrated development environment developed by Microsoft. The team was not satisfied with how VS Code handled AI plugins—particularly GitHub’s Copilot—and wanted to build that functionality natively into the development environment.

Popular podcaster Lex Fridman released a podcast featuring the team over the weekend. It’s an interesting watch, offering insights into their journey and perspective on the future of AI-assisted coding.

It’s quite lengthy at two and a half hours, but if you are interested in the field, it provides valuable insight into what is happening in the industry.

We have been tracking the company for some time now; however, we haven't seen any new roles posted, as they have had just three static job descriptions listed for quite some time.

We feature jobs from competing companies such as Augment, Codeium, Cognition, Magic, and Poolside. Interestingly, Codeium and Cognition have two sales roles in today’s list.

Artificial intelligence and deep learning hardware company Cerebras recently filed to go public.

They are also hiring for ten internships in Toronto and four new grad positions in Sunnyvale right now. We didn’t include them in today’s list, but you can find them all on their careers page.

Shield AI is a defense technology company that develops autonomous aircraft and AI-powered systems to enhance military operations and reduce human risk in combat environments. They have a bunch of mechanical, electrical, software, and avionics engineering internships available in San Diego and Dallas. Again, there are too many to list, so please check their careers page if you are interested.
